Ok, Now That We've Established My Brilliance....

I have, in my bedroom, a wall that must be at least 20 ft long. The REAL window 'opens' to a fence AND the badminton club (and it's wonderfully deranged children). I decided that I had to do something on the long wall, so I took two posters and a set of shutter door panels, some wall paper glue, a couple of 1 x 2 inch 'boards, and a saw and went to work.

Now I have these cool windows (grin)...

Each section is a little over 5 ft long, so it really fits on the wall. I specially like the trees, because it looks like you could walk out on that porch and sit and watch the ocean...

sigh...

These are not the greatest photos, but I couldn't get a shot without a reflection, so there's no flash (which blurs them a bit)

Oh, and another wall poster. This is purported to be the only picture of a dirigible 'hooked up' to the Empire State Building. Apparently someone thought it would be a great idea to have a docking port up there for blimps to unload passengers. The first (and only ) time they tried it lasted for minutes. Seems it's a bad idea to try to hook up a huge balloon and have a long stairway leading down some 1200 ft above the ground.

Makes sense to me!

So I don't know if this is real or someone's impression (although it looks original) of the event. If you notice, I stole the outside frame from this for the Titanic picture.. it's not missed, because this is behind the front door..

Art Project....

I am in a 'creative' mood... or something. I now have several small picture frames and boxes that are going to hold some pictures and objects. One of the projects is to create a display for some of my fossils. I have some really neat stuff, including a slice of a fossil that is 2.5 BILLION years old. That's Billion with a B.

Unless, of course, you're one of those 6,000 year old planet people...

Then they're just some pretty rocks (grin).

Just a note. I have a penchant for sticking pictures on the wall and then hanging empty frames over them. The first one my sister saw she asked how I got the matting to match the wall paint..

It's easy when it IS the wall paint.

This is one of my favorites. I LOVE this porch. I can smell the magnolias and hear the cicadas... or is it the other way around...

hmmm....

The most recent one is my Titanic picture (signed by Millvinia Dean, the last survivor )

This is a work in progress. I am still going to add some small pictures that I really like that show some neat parts of the ship.

But here it is so far...

1988 Paul Hunt gymnastics comedy floor exercise

Turns out there are more out there....

These were for non olympic events, and Paul Hunt was in his mid 30's I believe...

If you go to Youtube, you can see him with a mustache... even a bit funnier!

What Weather?

I spent a long time on the phone with Wyatt Burp yesterday. Apparently it's TRUE what they say about Georgia Girls (grin). She was telling me about her trip to Florida and almost drowning in the choppy waters caused by the Texas hurricane. She SAID that there was no way to tell that they shouldn't have gone swimming from the look of the sky and water...

I beg to differ..

It seems QUITE obvious to me!!!

As Al Would Say...

There are no big worlds, only small ones...

Well, he didn't say it, not that I remember, but he should have! Besides, what better reason than that to put such a dreamy picture on this blog...

He's here because the big world/small world thing, which I will explain even as we speak.

Yesterday I went to breakfast in "the second" (El Segundo), and, having a bit of time to spend, stopped at a local antiques shop. This has become a sometimes hobby of mine since the big trip and my WWJD discussion with J... No No.. that's JOYCE, not the other J.

Anyways, this shop had a great deal of old, large furniture... some of it was really great, and I planned a return trip when I had more time. I'm not looking for furniture, but I didn't get a chance to see the 'little stuff' . I was talking to the owner, and we started discussing blogging. I told her that a really good way to have some fun 'advertising' some of her stuff would be to blog about a particular piece and tell a story about it or some other fun information. I returned that afternoon with my computer to show her how easy it was to start one, and had several pages pulled up on mine to show.

This lead to a discussion of the big trip and how and why it came about and Deadwood and... well...

you all know how I can talk...

Turns out that the show purchased a great deal of the furniture used on the show from her antique shop (aptly named Studio Antiques)... it made total sense, as the stuff would have been perfect for the show. We talked about the forums and the characters from the show that often appeared to talk...

She mentioned that she met Ian McShane....

She said she had a picture of the meeting which might or might not have included her husband... she wasn't sure if he was in the picture (her husband, that is) because... well, hell, who would remember anything but those eyes!

So I found another tiny world that fit yet again...

Sucks to be a Kid Nowadays...

When did summer become a week long event?

When I was a kid, summer ran (roughly) from June 15th until September 15. It was a grand and glorious time, during which we didn't get as bored or need as much entertaining as kids today. Well, I"m sure we got board, but there was always something to do 'on the block' as it were. We had a super long time while our tiny brains slowly lost everything we'd learned from the last year... Those WERE the days, my friend.

I'm not talking about the parts of the country where children start earlier and occasionally get off later due to weather, and I'm not talking about that horror- Year round school- I'm talking about this coast... MY past...

No one mentioned "Back to School" until at LEAST September. It would have been.... well... unholy.

Or something.

The words "Back to School sale " were first mentioned around the first of September, and were mostly concerned with pencils and stuff.

The signs, sales and hype, have been going on this year since around the first of July...

Back to school in July??

Sacrilege...

Every adult (with children) has been swept into this horrible belief system with uncommon ease.

I feel so sorry for the kids!
